Two Mexico City restaurants rank in top 50 Worldwide
Two restaurants in Mexico City, Pujol and Quintonil, were again included in the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world.
The Mexican restaurant Pujol, founded by the famous Mexican chef Enrique Olvera, this year ranked No. 20, having been ranked 25th on last year’s list.
Meanwhile, Quintonil, by chef Jorge Vallejo, who started his career under Olvera’s tutelage, was placed as number 22 after last year’s placement at number 12.
The dish that stands out in Pujol is “mole madre, mole nuevo”, described as a dish with a perfect circle of fresh mole sauce in the middle of an outer layer of a mole aged for more than a thousand days, which creates a fascinating contrast of flavors.
The dish that stands out at Quintonil are the sardines in green sauce with fennel and guacamole, as well as a colorful dessert based on mamey seed ice cream.
Another Olvera restaurant, Cosme, in New York, was first placed on the list to place at number 40.
Eleven Madison Park was crowned as the best restaurant in the world after having been in the top 10 since 2012. Last year, the Manhattan restaurant was ranked third.
“Its multi-step tasting menu celebrates the rich history and culinary traditions of New York City thanks to the good hand of co-owners Will Guidara and the Swiss chef Daniel Humm,” said the British magazine Restaurant Magazine, which is in charge of the listing .
This year, the list featured a sample of cultures and cuisines that included restaurants from 22 countries on five continents. France, Spain and the United States stand out, each with six restaurants.
Also noteworthy, was the Peruvian capital of Lima, with two restaurants in the top 10 positions: Central (five) and Maido (eight), as well as Astrid and Gastón, in place 33.
The other Latin American countries with restaurants in this year’s list are: DOM of Sao Paulo, in Brazil; Boragó, in Santiago de Chile; and Tegui, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
